Titus

1Ti 2:9-15
I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God. A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. But women will be saved through childbearing-if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.

I know these verses used to annoy me a bit. I think the idea of quietness and being silent and not have authority just rubbed me the wrong way. Until I heard a preacher say something that the silent it talks about when translated actually referred to not gossiping. That I can say AMEN too! I find nothing more irritating then women who come into church or studies or really any gathering and spend the whole time either gossiping or whispering and laughing with friends. Maybe its just my paranoia left over from Jr. High, but I assume that if that's their character I will at some point be on their list if I open my mouth. I also look at the other bible verses speaking of submission and I can understand how God ordered things and when I think about it whats difficult about submission is more that men don't always take the role of leader and do not have the kind of love and respect for women that God requires. If that was in place submission would be natural. Who doesn't want to rest in someone they can completely know has their best interests in mind and is constantly aware of putting that person before themselves!
