My trial...........

I have abandoned this blog by accident :) Here is a little update, my Noah experience. I have felt for a long time that God has been leading me to dress more feminine. So I started investigating modest clothing........eeekkkkss....don't just google that. I thought more longer skirts and dresses as opposed to jeans.........but what came up was more Puritan type things or denim jumpers, which may work for some people, but I am not there! Anyway I am not sure what the "biblical" dress code looks like, but I can definitely say what it does not look like..pretty much not revealing that which should be saved for my husband. Not causing other husbands to look at me in a way in which should be saved for a wife. Other then that I don't see too many specifics in the bible. So I was praying hard when I saw this couple and realized they both had on the same outfit, khaki pants and a collared shirt! Different colors, but it hit me....somehow normal has become unisex clothing. Now since my study has pointed me to seeing that God intended us to be physically, emotionally different and walk in different roles, how awkward to show up in the same clothes! So at that moment I decided for the next month I am going to try to wear only skirts, dresses or those capri type pants that look like skirts. My criteria is I have to be able to bend over and move around without showing whats under and be able to stand outside in the wind without it blowing up (not exploding!) :) So basically it has to fall below the knee. I feel a lot like Noah, I am not sure what this will accomplish in life, but I feel like God is saying, just do it!! So I will report back if it changes my life, if its here to stay of if the rain never falls :)

Ouch......

Amos 4:1
Hear this word, you cows of Bashan on Mount Samaria, you women who oppress the poor and crush the needy and say to your husbands, "Bring us some drinks!"

According to this verse laying around ordering around our husbands to serve us, is as bad as oppressing the poor and crushing the needy.......... I also can't say I want to be called a cow..... :)

Titus

1Ti 2:9-15
I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God. A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. But women will be saved through childbearing-if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.

I know these verses used to annoy me a bit. I think the idea of quietness and being silent and not have authority just rubbed me the wrong way. Until I heard a preacher say something that the silent it talks about when translated actually referred to not gossiping. That I can say AMEN too! I find nothing more irritating then women who come into church or studies or really any gathering and spend the whole time either gossiping or whispering and laughing with friends. Maybe its just my paranoia left over from Jr. High, but I assume that if that's their character I will at some point be on their list if I open my mouth. I also look at the other bible verses speaking of submission and I can understand how God ordered things and when I think about it whats difficult about submission is more that men don't always take the role of leader and do not have the kind of love and respect for women that God requires. If that was in place submission would be natural. Who doesn't want to rest in someone they can completely know has their best interests in mind and is constantly aware of putting that person before themselves!

Proverbs – Chapter 31:10-31
10. Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is worth more than precious rubies.11. Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life.12. She will not hinder him but help him all her life.13. She finds wool and flax and busily spins it.14. She is like a merchant's ship; she brings her food from afar.15. She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household and plan the day's work for her servant girls.16. She goes out to inspect a field and buys it; with her earnings she plants a vineyard.17. She is energetic and strong, a hard worker.18. She watches for bargains; her lights burn late into the night.19. Her hands are busy spinning thread, her fingers twisting fiber.20. She extends a helping hand to the poor and opens her arms to the needy.21. She has no fear of winter for her household because all of them have warm clothes.22. She quilts her own bedspreads. She dresses like royalty in gowns of finest cloth.23. Her husband is well known, for he sits in the council meeting with the other civic leaders.24. She makes belted linen garments and sashes to sell to the merchants.25. She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs with no fear of the future.26. When she speaks, her words are wise, and kindness is the rule when she gives instructions.27. She carefully watches all that goes on in her household and does not have to bear the consequences of laziness.28. Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her:29. "There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all!"30. Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.31. Reward her for all she has done. Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.

We have probably all read this and panicked, how do I measure up! But if you read through it, what its really saying to me is, woman take an interest! This is your household. Do not let the world crowd out what you were designed to be! Its saying don't be lazy........something I can be so guilty of. When we have idle time its usually when we get ourselves into trouble. Note it doesn't say be busy in the kitchen all day, or be busy only washing your husband clothes. It opens up tons of things to do for women! It describes us all whether married, single, with children or without working or home. Be excellent in what you do.....just don't be doing nothing!

Long time coming

Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. 29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

If we look at this passage it is clear to see that God gave man and woman equal rights in all things, but as we have seen in other passages different roles. So it is not a question of God only giving man a right to the things of his creation. He gave us different roles to make our lives easier yet we each have equal access.

Proverbs..........

Pro 6:23 For these commands are a lamp, this teaching is a light, and the corrections of discipline are the way to life,

Pro 6:24 keeping you from the immoral woman, from the smooth tongue of the wayward wife.

Pro 6:25 Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes,

Pro 6:26 for the prostitute reduces you to a loaf of bread, and the adulteress preys upon your very life.

Pro 7:10 Then out came a woman to meet him, dressed like a prostitute and with crafty intent.

Pro 9:13 The woman Folly is loud; she is undisciplined and without knowledge.

Pro 11:22 Like a gold ring in a pig's snout is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion.

Proverbs is very clear about what we should and shouldn't do. After reading through just this part (Proverbs will take a few posts to get through) I can clearly see that we are not to dress immorally. What does that mean though? I would lead it to mean from the verses above, anything you would wear that would be worn in order to flaunt what should be saved for your husband. The short, tight and revealing have no place in a Christians life. It is not to say our clothes should become our idol and we should have people stare at us because we only have long gray woollen dresses. Our clothes either way can become an idol something that makes us use it to make others look at us and not at Christ. Yet there is a way to dress in a way where we are covered and appropriate. It is our freedom to dress as we want, but as a Christian our freedom is in Christ and here he is commanding us to not cause men to stray from their purity or their wives. If you got it Praise God!! His intention wasn't for you to flaunt it! It also talks about a loud woman who shows no discretion. How important is it for us to be women! God tells us that we who show no discretion and feel the right to be loud and crass are as beautiful as....a gold ring in a pigs snout..covered in slime, snot and slop.........OUCH!

Short, but good from Exodus

Exd 35:26 And all the women who were willing and had the skill spun the goat hair.

Exd 35:29 All the Israelite men and women who were willing brought to the Lord freewill offerings for all the work the Lord through Moses had commanded them to do.

This short bit showed me something of huge significance. Note both said who were willing. God doesn't force us into doing anything, he looks to use those who are willing. Women who really want God to use them must be willing. They must not refuse to follow God even if it doesn't follow her life plan or her understanding. We must be willing to serve God!
